It's okay to have boundaries in a relationship. In many cases, we would severely recommend it. Not everybody is lucky enough to find themself in a relationship where not only are they in deep rich love with their partner but they also get along swimmingly with all of their friends, family, and coworkers. Is it possible? Of course. But it just simply doesn't happen for everyone. You may unconditionally love your boyfriend/girlfriend, but not necessarily everyone in their circle.
It can be extra difficult when the people you don't get along with also happen to be your in-laws. It happens to a lot of people. If you can't stand to be in the same room as your mother-in-law, then we'd argue that it's okay to set a few boundaries. But it should also be possible to find some middle ground because you have one huge thing in common, the love for your partner. Right?
